From the Publisher
This bible is designed to make Scripture more accessible to Catholic
women, focusing on deepening their spiritual walk by nurturing a love
for God and his Word and teaching them how to use Scripture in prayer
and daily life. It includes the Deuterocanonical books as well as 260
daily meditations drawn from classic and contemporary sources, character
sketches of Biblical women, and articles on living the Catholic tradition.
Review
A friend once told me that she wanted to join a scripture study group
at her church but she didn’t know enough about the Bible to do
it. She would have loved the Catholic Woman’s Devotional Bible.
It opens the door for people like her who fee unsure about how to start
reading the Bible. It includes a six-year guide that takes the reader
through the cycle of the Catholic liturgical year as well as articles
that link Catholic life and teaching to the scriptures. One of the nicest
elements in this publication is the collection of devotional readings
based on the women of the Bible. These are written by an impressive
array of authors who lend a welcome female perspective to biblical themes
and stories. It all works together to provide exegetical background,
spiritual reflection, and a link with everyday life.
In an introductory passage, it is noted that the emphasis
of the Catholic Woman’s Devotional Bible is on spirituality rather
than study and on helping lay people read and pray the Bible on a daily
basis. It accomplishes this objective in a way that would have put my
friend at ease.
