  Catholic News Service

The mission of Catholic News Service is the mission of the Church itself - to spread the Gospel through contemporary means of communication. Our mission is to perform this task by reporting the news which affects Catholics in their everyday lives.

Some of that news is good and some is bad, but it is what readers need to know in order to work for salvation. They need to know that there are saints in the making in the Church today and they need to know that there are sinners too.

Our mission is to report fully, fairly and freely about the involvement of the Church in the world today.

Catholic News Service provides CNS in Brief and CNS Story of the Day each weekday and Movie Capsules on the public area of the CNS Internet site.

Sacred Texts Selected by the Great Books Foundation

The purpose of this Web site is to offer readings that present the ideas and beliefs of predominant religious movements: Christianity, Islam, Judaism. The writings selected for this site are both profound and provocative, having influenced the moral, social, and political development of human history. It is our hope that reading and thinking about these texts will offer a rich opportunity for discussion.
Great Books Foundation

The Great Books Foundation is dedicated to helping people learn how to think and share ideas by educating them to become participants in, leaders of, and advocates for Shared Inquiry. Through text-based discussion, Shared Inquiry strengthens critical thinking and civil discourse, promotes reading and the appreciation of literature, and provides people of all ages with a powerful instrument for social engagement and lifelong learning.

The Great Books Foundation offers people of all ages an exciting way to read and discuss outstanding works of literature. The Movie Mom

One of my favorite sites is The Movie Mom. Our 13 year old son and I often check The Movie Mom’s reviews and recommendations before heading to the theatres or video rental store. Each film is reviewed for language, violence, drug use, sexual references, etc. Great collection of links to websites about media, parenting. And check her book, The Movie Mom’s Guide to Family Movies.

Amazon Author Interviews

Read interviews of authors that have appeared in the Religion and Spirituality section of amazon.com. Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie), Dali Lama (Ethics for a New Millennium), Kathleen Norris (The Cloister Walk), John O’Donohue (Anam Cara) and others.

The Sacrament of Story

The November 1999 issue of U.S. Catholic contains a special section on The Sacrament of Story. Patrick McCormick takes stock of the vibrant state of Catholic fiction, Maureen Abood interviews Annie Dillard, Carmen Aguinaco reviews the work of Latin authors, and Brian Doyle honors Andre Dubus, a writer who told stories of people struggling to face life with courage and integrity. AmericanCatholic.org

AmericanCatholic.org took its place on the Internet in June 1996. On this site you will find reliable information on the Catholic and Christian faith. Much of this comes through the online edition of St. Anthony Messenger, and through the catalog of books, videos, audiocassettes and subscription products of St. Anthony Messenger Press and Franciscan Communications. A variety of new features, like Saint of the Day and Minute Meditations, appear exclusively on americancatholic.org.
