Evelyn Eaton Whitehead is a developmental psychologist (Ph.D., University of Chicago) who writes and lectures of adult maturity, the dynamics of leadership, and the social analysis of community and parish life.

James D. Whitehead is a pastoral theologian and historian of religion (Ph.D., Harvard University) concerned with issues of contemporary spirituality, ministerial leadership, and theological method in ministry.

The Whiteheads are consultants in education and ministry through Whitehead Associates, which they established in 1978. Their work serves educational programs, religious organizations, and other not-for-profit agencies in the United States and internationally, contributing to programs of continuing professional education, leadership development, and adult formation in faith.

The Whiteheads are Associate Faculty of the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University of Chicago, with which they have been affiliated since 1970. They are Distinguished Fellows in the EDS-Stewart Chair of the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History at the University of San Francisco. In fall 1992 they served as Distinguished Visiting Professors at the Warren Center for Catholic Studies at the University of Tulsa. From 1973-78 they were members of the graduate theology faculty at the University of Notre Dame. Currently they make their home in South Bend, Indiana.

They have co-authored several books, the most recent of which is Wisdom of the Body: Making Sense of Our Sexuality, which will be published in October 2001. (082451954X)
